KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Baylor University, Texas A&M University-Commerce, Wabash College, Wayland Baptist University, and Sullivan County (N.Y.) Community College and have been selected as the NABC Teams of the Week for week two of the 2019-20 season.
NCAA Division I – Baylor
Head Coach: Scott Drew
No. 24/23 Baylor beat Ohio, 76-53, and Coastal Carolina, 77-65, before upsetting No. 17/15 Villanova to capture the title of the Myrtle Beach Invitational. In a back-and-forth championship game with the Wildcats that featured nine ties and 18 lead changes, the Bears took the lead for good with 5:52 left in the game.
NCAA Division II – Texas A&M-Commerce
Head Coach: Jaret von Rosenberg
The Lions became the first team to beat 12th-ranked St. Edward's this season by an 86-78 margin. Texas A&M-Commerce connected on 50-percent against the Hilltoppers from the field including 15-of-30 from beyond the arc. The Lions also beat Hardin-Simmons at home in a non-conference game, 70-66, before dropping a one-point decision, 79-78, to St. Mary’s.
NCAA Division III – Wabash
Head Coach: Kyle Brumett
The No. 14-ranked Wabash Little Giants went 3-0 on the week, including handing Carroll its first loss of the season (85-72) at the Nicholas Investments Thanksgiving Tournament. Wabash set a school record with 137 points against Greenville in the first game of the tournament. The Little Giants also registered an 85-72 win over Earlham during the week.
NAIA – Wayland Baptist
Head Coach: Ty Harrelson
The third-ranked Pioneers completed a six-game road swing over the past 2 1/2 weeks with a pair of wins to open defense of their first-ever Sooner Athletic Conference title. They defeated a one-loss Southwestern Christian team, which is receiving Top 25 votes and added a fifth-straight victory over perennial power Oklahoma City University. The Pioneers went on a late 14-0 run, holding the Stars scoreless for close to five minutes, to secure the victory.
NJCAA/Two-Year Colleges – Sullivan County Community College
Head Coach: Brent Wilson
Sullivan County capped off a huge week last week. After garnering wins over Ulster County and Columbia-Greene, the Generals met 22nd-ranked Division I Harcum on a neutral floor and rolled through the Bears 106-79. Sullivan is now ranked #7 in the country with a 7-1 record in 2019.
