NABC Division III Coach and Player of the Year Announced

The NABC announced today that Dale Wellman of Nebraska Wesleyan University has been selected as the 2018 NABC Coach of the Year for NCAA Division III and Cabrini University senior Tyheim Monroe is the 2018 NABC Division III Player of the Year.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced today that Dale Wellman of Nebraska Wesleyan University has been selected as the 2018 NABC Coach of the Year for NCAA Division III and Cabrini University senior Tyheim Monroe is the 2018 NABC Division III Player of the Year.
 
Wellman and Monroe will receive their awards on Sunday, April 1, at the annual NABC Guardians of the Game awards show in San Antonio, Texas.  The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Lila Cockrell Theater in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center during the NABC Convention and NCAA Men’s Final Four, and will be streamed live on Facebook.
 
Wellman guided his Nebraska Wesleyan University team to the 2018 NCAA Division III men’s basketball championship, tipping the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, 78-72, in the title game on Saturday in Salem, Va.  The Prairie Wolves set a program record for wins with a 30-3 won-lost record this season.
 
He was also selected as the Iowa Conference Coach of the Year and has earned coach of the year honors in each of his four seasons at Nebraska Wesleyan as his teams have an 83-32 won-lost record.
 
Monroe, a 6-6 senior forward from Philadelphia, averaged 21.5 points and 14.7 rebounds per game, the second best rebounding mark in NCAA Division III this season.  He led Division III with 25 double-doubles, two triple-doubles and 427 total rebounds.
 
Monroe was the Colonial States Athletic Conference Player of the Year for the second straight season, leading coach Tim McDonald’s team to a 25-4 overall record.
