Gottlieb, Farnham to Serve as Hall of Fame Induction Masters of Ceremonies

The National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will once again be hosted by nationally recognized college basketball broadcasters, this year featuring Doug Gottlieb of CBS Sports and Sean Farnham of ESPN

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will once again be hosted by nationally recognized college basketball broadcasters, this year featuring Doug Gottlieb of CBS Sports and Sean Farnham of ESPN. It will be the second time hosting for both with Gottlieb emceeing with fellow CBS broadcaster Clark Kellogg in 2015 and Farnham co-hosting along side ESPN’s Fran Fraschilla in 2013. The induction ceremony will take place November 18 at the Arvest Bank Theater at the Midland at 8:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPNU on December 15 at 6:00 p.m. ET.

“We’re thrilled that Doug and Sean have agreed to serve as the hosts of this year’s event,” said Jim Haney, executive director of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and the NABC Foundation, which oversees the Hall of Fame. “Not only are they nationally recognized talents, they also are incredibly good at their jobs and know the game inside and out. We’re confident that they’ll set the tone in making the ceremony a first-class event.”

After completing his college basketball career at UCLA in 2000, Sean Farnham began broadcasting in 2001 with Fox Sports Net/West covering a variety of sports including college and NBA basketball, college football and Major League Baseball. Winning two Los Angeles-based Emmys with Fox Sports Net/West, Farnham also gained national attention as the co-host of the nationally syndicated afternoon drive show with Chris Meyers on Fox Sports Radio. In 2010, Farnham took his current position with ESPN as a college basketball analyst, where he calls games across ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU.

A college basketball standout during the same era as Farnham, Doug Gottlieb began his broadcasting career after racking up the 11th-most assists in NCAA history as a point guard for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Now one of today’s most entertaining sports talk radio hosts and TV analysts, Gottlieb is a part of the team at CBS Sports Radio and can be heard weekdays on “The Doug Gottlieb Show,” which is broadcast both on the air and live on CBS Sports Network’s simulcast. Also a part of the CBS Sports’ NCAA men’s basketball coverage, Gottlieb serves as a studio and game analyst for both regular-season and tournament games.

“It’s really unique to have two hosts who competed during the same timeframe,” said Haney of the two hosts whose Bruins and Cowboys faced off once during their careers with the Bruins winning a tight 69-66 contest in Dec. 1998. “When you combine their history with their professionalism and energy, you’ll get a pair of hosts who will make the event memorable for both the inductees and the audience.”

As co-hosts of the nationally televised event, Gottlieb and Farnham will interview each of the inductees live on stage. This year’s class includes former players Mark Aguirre (DePaul), the late Bob Boozer (Kansas State), Doug Collins (Illinois State), Lionel Simmons (La Salle), Jamaal Wilkes (UCLA) and Dominique Wilkins (Georgia), as well as former coaches Hugh Durham and Mike Montgomery, both of whom coached at multiple schools.

The 2016 National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on Friday, November 18, at the Arvest Bank Theatre at the Midland in Kansas City as part of a multi-day celebration of college basketball that will include the CBE Hall of Fame Classic Tournament at Sprint Center November 21-22.  The day will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the press conference and will be followed by a red carpet event at the College Basketball Experience at Sprint Center at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available to the general public online at www.collegebasketballhalloffame.com.
